Report: Ngā Manu Kōrero Regional Speech Competition

On Friday 7 June, the Ngā Manu Kōrero Regional Competition took place at Aorere College, featuring three students from Auckland Grammar School, Form 3 students T. C. Calvert-Allies and K. B. R. Pao alongside Senior Prefect S. H. A. S. Peita (pictured above).

Calvert-Allies and Pao delivered robust speeches with passion and pride that captivated the audience. Pao secured third place overall in the Junior English section.

Peita showcased exceptional talent again, participating in both the Senior English and Senior Māori sections – a notable milestone marking the first time a student from Auckland Grammar School competed in both sections. Judges described his performance as confident, passionate, and enthralling.

Peita won first place overall in the Senior English section, an outstanding achievement. In the Senior Māori section, he finished third overall. Peita’s victory in the Senior English section means he has gained a place to compete in the National Competition at the end of Term 3 here in Auckland at Spark Arena.

S. H. A. S. Peita crossed stage to receive the taonga for first in the Senior English section, first in the impromptu speech and third in the Senior Māori section along with the School’s congratulations.
