Auckland Individual Squash Championships
Four members of the Auckland Grammar School Premier Squash team competed on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May at the Auckland Individual Squash Championships, which is a brand new competition introduced this year.
Form 5 student F. L. Goodson, Form 6 student N. Z. Thomas and 2022 Captain of Squash A. S. Fatialofa all competed in the Boys Division 1 category, while Form 6 student A. H. Manivannan was in the Boys Division 2 category.
Day one saw all players record at least one win in round robin play. Goodson was in particular form, playing very well to win against the higher graded number one seed from Mount Albert Grammar School.
Day two provided more round robin play, culminating in finals within each division in the afternoon.
The top division was a very competitive one, combining the best players in Auckland, all seeking to win the inaugural event. Through four tightly contested rounds, Thomas and Fatialofa both made the final where Fatialofa prevailed in a match showcasing some great rallies and a good deal of skill and commitment. He crossed stage last week to receive his medal and the School’s congratulations.
A special thank you to manager of the Premier Squash team Mr Simon Lassche and to Master in Charge of Squash Mr Kevin Jacobs for their continued efforts and ongoing support.
