Kendo is a soft contact marshal art with the contestants wearing leather armour and using shinais or bamboo swords.
It has been in operation at Auckland Grammar School for seven years and in order to join no previous experience is needed. Full training is given from novice level to black belt.
Training is conducted two days a week after school in the school gymnasium. It is conducted under an Auckland kendo club, the DMK and as there is no interschool competition, some of our senior members have been graded and involved with, and competed in, inter-club competition.
The Master in Charge of Kendo is Mr Poulsen. Students are able to speak to him in the Physics during the School day or contact him via email.
