A visit from the US Ambassador to New Zealand
On Friday 2 August, Auckland Grammar School was fortunate to host a visit from the United States Ambassador to New Zealand and Western Samoa, Thomas Udall, and two of his staff, Alexia Branch and Katie Sleeman.
Ambassador Udall met with a group of Form 7 students who have expressed interest in applying for universities in the Ambassador Udall met with a group of Form 7 students spoke about his upbringing and how he progressed through a career of public service from law in New Mexico, to elected representative for over two decades including serving as New Mexico Attorney General then into the role of a diplomat. Students gained insight into the place of law in a government, some of the career drivers that motivated Ambassador Udall and the importance of service.
Ambassador Udall also spoke about the strong relationship between New Zealand and the United States and the importance of personal relationships between the two countries.
The students were grateful for this opportunity to engage directly with such a senior diplomat with a broad range of experiences.
