Oboe

The oboe is a unique and expressive instrument, known for its clear, penetrating sound and lyrical quality, making it a standout voice within any ensemble.

As one of the most melodic instruments in the Symphony Orchestra, Premier Concert Band, and Wind Band, the oboe often carries solo lines and has a significant role. Oboists are highly sought after, as the instrument requires a dedicated approach to tone production and breath control.

As it is a rarer choice among young musicians, students who play the oboe frequently find opportunities for solo roles in school ensembles and beyond. Instrument hire is available through the Music Department, subject to availability.
