Report: New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships
A squad of 16 students recently represented the School at the NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Championships in Auckland.
All students recorded at least one personal best time across their events and the team’s overall performance placed the School as the second best boys’ school in the country.
In the Under 13 division, Form 3 student T. Y. Chin earned Bronze in the 100m and 200m backstroke events.
In the Under 14 division, Form 4 student M. Sun earned Silver in the 50m Butterfly in a time of 27.25 secs.
In the Under 15 division, Form 5 student R. H. Hou earned Silver in the 100m Freestyle and Bronze in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, and 100m Butterfly events. Form 5 student Y. C. Lee claimed Bronze in the 100m breaststroke and Silver in the 200m breaststroke. The relay team of T. Y. Chin, R. H. Hou, Y. C. Lee and M. Sun won Gold and the national Under 15 4x 50m Freestyle title.
In the Senior Under 18 division, the relay team of Form 6 students O. W. Bower, L. S. Gibson, L. C. Williams, and Captain of Swimming H. P. Klouwens placed fourth in very strong fields in both the 200m Medley and 400m freestyle relays, while L. S. Gibson earned Silver in the 200m Butterfly, missing out on the Gold by only three-tenths of a second.
H. P. Klouwens was the standout swimmer for the School at this meet, winning Bronze in the 100m Freestyle and placing fourth in the 200m Freestyle events. In his favoured 50m Freestyle event, the final race of the boys’ programme, he executed a perfect swim to clinch Gold and the national title in a superb time of 22.66 secs.
