Report: New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships

During the last week of the Term 2 holidays, eight students from Auckland Grammar School competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships in Wellington.

In the three-hour Rogaine held in Wainuiomata hills, the Junior team consisting of Form 5 students L. M. Cameron and B. D. H. Dransfield narrowly missed a podium finish, placing fourth. The Senior team of Form 6 students S. C. Randerson (pictured above), C. P. Wagener and Captain of Orienteering C. R. Carter finished second in their event.

The sprint event was held at Kapiti College. S. C. Randerson placed eighth in the Senior boys, and B. D. H. Dransfield and Form 7 student I. D. Stewart were seventh and 10th respectively in the Intermediate event.

In the long event at Waitarere Beach, the team achieved two top-ten placings. Form 3 student T. Jayasuriya was seventh in the Junior event and S. C. Randerson was sixth in the Senior event.

In the relay, the Senior team of S. C. Randerson, C. P. Wagener and captain C. R. Carter were third.
