Junior Music Plate and Minister’s Plate Finals

The Junior Music Plate and Minister’s Plate Finals were held on Wednesday 7 September in the Heritage Room. With 11 students playing a range of pieces on different musical instruments, those in attendance had the opportunity to hear some fantastic playing.

Adjudicator and Old Boy Justin Bird ’96 was so captivated by the performances, he didn’t want to interrupt his enjoyment of them by writing notes!

This year’s Junior Music Plate winner was Form 4 student D. Y. Grant (clarinet), performing Clarinet Sonata Op.167, Mvt IV by C. Saint-Saëns. Justin commented that Daniel had ‘a beautiful range of colour in your sound, and fantastic control in the softer, slower parts.’

The 2022 Minister’s Plate winner was Form 6 student T. Yi, performing Pequeña Czarda by P. Iturralde on the alto saxophone, with Justin saying that Tianchang had ‘stunning tone, phrasing, dynamic and well-shaped.’
